Hi guys,
a problem with my console (Trident 65) appeared. On one channel the Pre-Amp Poti is dead. There is some pre-amplification but I can turn the poti as much as I want it won't increase or decrease, so I guess the Poti is damaged. Does anybody know where I can get those Potis and what Potis the Trident 65 uses? I pulled out a channel and I guess on the Potis it reads something like "Omeg - made in Britain" - Never heard of them actually. Are there any ALPS Potis that fit?
As explained in an earlier post. I am a lousy tech and still need some help from guys who know what they are doing...
Thanks for the input.

Mark,
thanks for your post and yes, pretty much agree with everything you said. Since I neither have the schematics nor the skill to fix it on my own yet I will have to find a good tech for now, which is a little problematic since my studio is located in a VERY rural region. Maybe any other german guys in the region of Köln/Trier in this forum knowing a good tech?? I doubt it, but whatever - have to see for that next week. Thanks for now wish you the best.

Chances are that it's not the pot. It could be a cap or a more likely suspect might be the first opamp. The amp is pretty easy to change and will cost you less then $2. I'm pretty sure it's the first chip (IC 1) at the top of the channel but it might be IC 2 or 3. Get a new TL071 and pop that in and see if the problem goes away. If it doesn't you've eliminated one possibility.
If you want some help email me and I'll dig out the schematic and I'll walk you through changing the amp.

Hello Jay,
thanks for your kind reply. That was actually the first thing I did - changing the first two opamps in particular channel - nothing changed. I'll see and change the third OpAmp as well. Kepp fingers crossed it'll work. But that has to wait as I am currently cabling the whole studio - work needed, anyone :D ?
Do you have the schematics of the Trident 65? Do you use the console as well?? What do you think about it?
Thanks again and I'll let you know if it helped.
Regards,
Markus

It may not be the pot, it could be just about anything. Really the only way to figure it out is to trace the signal through the cicuit and see where it disappears. This requires a schematic and some basic troubleshooting skills along with some basic tools. My recommendation is to find a tech who can come and fix it. Tell him you want to learn and watch closely as he does his work. You may want to bone up on some basic electronics as well. Good luck.
