Thats some good stuff there. My question is why would you be looking at an 8 channel recorder if you're only going to capture 2 tracks at a time and dump to PT? Unless you have an interface of some sort to bring more than two tracks in analog at a time it seems redundant.

I am interested in hearing this medium though. This is the new generation flash recorder isnt it?

Your chain will record anything you want into any medium you choose at a very high level of detail and realism as well as a large soundfield with width and depth like few others. It is completely reliable and professional. I'm sure others will give you their opinions on the mic choice and even may suggest a pair of SDC's for the piano. A U87 will do the job quite well thank you.

I was also wondering if you are going to be syncing tracks from the Tascam with the Akai sampler? What would you be using to sync these two with?

Thank you for your response and critique.. As far as using the MPC with the tascam..
My instrumentals usually contain about 16 core tracks before adding the extra things that "dress up" the track(reverse cymbals, sprinkles, extra hi hats and that sort of thing)
So i figure I'd record each track seperately into the tascam... Then Dump it to pro tools, rather than re record it with an interface...

For example Say i have a beat made with the mpc... Theres 16 pads on the mpc, meaning theres 16 possible sounds you can put into each of your beats.
So lets say pads 1-6=Kick(2), Snare(2), Hi hat(2).. and so on..
I figure i'll lay 8 tracks at a time, and mix them all as seperate wav files in pro tools. To mix it down later... Ya follow me?

AND the MPC has optional 8 outputs so that could mean capturing 8 track at a time smoke

I will suggest two mics on a vertical. A U87 works great on a grand but I don't know a good single point on vertical.

There is nothing humble about your setup. It's awesome! And purchasing those new 1073's is as close as you can come to the originals. Better still, they're new so no intermittents, 100% reliability, brand-new capacitors. Killer! Brother you've got it right. Screw the second 87 and get yourself a pair of 184's.
