Well, might not be the exact forum for this but perhaps someone out they might have a similar setup.

I was looking at getting a Quad monitor capable Video card for my DAW.

I have 2 17" analog Dell displays with another coming with my DAW (They practically give em away nowadays)

I am wondering if a Nvidia Quadro 4 VNS 400 /s 64MB on a PCI bus would be sufficent or woldl there be any noticable lag?

ATI is about to release their FireMV 2400 which runs on a PCI-Express bus and has 256 MB on it. I am not sure how much the pricing will be on the FireMV, but i know the quadro 400 run 300-400.

Thanks in advance

4 monitors

For an AMD64 s939 CPU I'd look into one of the nF4 SLI boards that can hold 2 PCI-E videocards and buy one of the budget cards like the Asus Extreme AX300 128Mb, DVI, TVout, PCI-E that have 1x DVI and 1x VGA output.

Hook up your old monitors to the VGA and new ones to the DVI outputs. On this particular videocard the DVI-outputs can be converted to VGA's with the included adapters. So you can buy two cheap VGA monitor instead of a more expensive DVI-monitor.

There are also several Intel SLI-boards.

Of course buying a PCI videocard might just do the trick. It doesn't look like a futureproof purchase however unless you're planning on upgrading to a serverboard (Xeon or Opteron) sometime in the future.

I'd also ask my local PC-store for help. They might grand you the right to trade it in if it doesn't work like they say it will or they might help you with installing the PCI-videocard.

I wonder when soundcards will become PCI-E based, but that's another story.

DO NOT buy an Nforce 4,
esecially the SLI.
absolutely sucks for pro audio. we have yet to get any nforce 4 board to work any where near as good as the nforce 3.
tons of people who jumped the gun on this are having problems as well.

the PCI-E sucks the life out the the PCI bus (including firewire)

Well the new rig will only have hte option of PCI or PCI-E. Unless i were to make the new rig the gaming PC and the older one the audio rig. BUt the reason I bought it was to be the audio setup. I'll continue to research on the setups, the Quadro 4 is supposed ot be a fairly capable board, as long as my displays don't start lagging out then I'll be happy.

I looked up the QID and it comes if a pretty good variety of options but it also runs at the least 2X as much as the quadro 4.
