Better than Audacity?

Hey guys, as you can tell I'm pretty much knew to this website, and a little newcomer to the music business. But I have a couple of friends who are seriously into and planning on a future music career in hip hop.

Right now I've done all my work with Audacity but I'm finding it lacking what I need to make my music more serious. I don't know how to make beats yet, so I stick to instrumentals and make released tracks un-official.

But yeah, I was wondering how I should start out? I am helping my friends out with this and I need to know a more legit, serious, free program that's easy to use, and better than Audacity.

Can anyone help me out?

You can get more legit and you can get more serious but free is hard to beat.

Of course she'll have to shell out a few hundred dollars but it's worth it.

Haven't done acid for years. No, really.
