Hi All,

I'm just looking to get started in home recording and was looking for some input on a Mic. As far as software goes, my friend has what is needed on his laptop so we've got the basics, we just now need the Microphone to get us going.

I was looking for an opinion on USB Mic's -

Samson C03
PG27-USB
I've read mixed review on these, so somebody who knows exactly how good/bad these are, your input would be really appreciated. That being said, if USB Mic's are no good for vocals I would welcome any advice on what a good microphone is to get started on.

Thank you for your time,
MusicQ

If you looking for USB mic then perhaps Rode Podcaster will be very good choice. I have this mic and I use mostly for Skype, because for recording I do have other mic's. Anyway I'm a Rode guy, and I'm very pleased with all Rode mic's what I have. You did not mention anything regarding interface what is very convenient and necessary device to connect any XLR type mic instead of USB what is direct connection to any computer. But if you have interface then Rode NT2A or NT1A will be very good choice for recording.

i'll skip the 58 speil, cuz nobody wants to hear it, even tho it's true. Ev re-20, shure sm-7. AT 3035. If it were i, i would get an xlr mic, and use the blue icicle to interface w/ the computer, if you don't have an interface already.

You can really open up your options by not restricting yourself to built in type usb mics, which are geared toward podcasts.

There a many different interfaces. You have to choose the right one for you and your PC or Laptop, there many things to consider, like for example USB or Firewire connection I/O etc. I use focusrite with firewire what is good for my laptop because I have firewire port. They are many different brands and price range what are important to many folks. I did posted link regarding only Focusrite but the are many more.
