Hi, I've just joined in the hopes that someone could shed some light on this. I just turned on both of my Event tr8's that I've been using well over a year trouble free only to find that my left speaker seems to have lost its amplification. It plays sound very quietly. It has a touchy power cord that sometimes shorts out. Maybe that's the problem. It has never caused trouble before. Please help me. Is there some kind of fix or someting I could check? I have noticed slight hiss from it recently before this happened. The hiss is still there. I've tried different cords/inputs with no luck. Perhaps something was in the process of malfunctioning? PLEASE HELP.

Had a similar problem with my precison 8's.
Turned them on one day and the left speaker (coincidence?) instantly made a loud fuzzy hissing sound. I phoned event but couldn't get a responce :evil:
Mine were out of warranty so I pulled it apart which I don't reccomend of your not electronics savy bla bla bla. Turned out to be the input trim pot, they don't seem to be of the highest quality so it wouldn't surprise me if yours did the same. I replaced it with a fixed resistor and been working fine since-I ajdust the right to match the level with the left.
kinda makes me question event's costomer service though.
Anyway if yours is the same problem you might be able to check it by gently pushing on the trim knob and take note of any change in sound, careful though as an open circut in the pot will actually make the speaker put out full volume so watch your levels!
Also keep in mind that any other problems on the circut board could also be affected as the trim pot will be pushing the board as well so this test is highly subjective but might give you some clue.
Hope this helps. BTW if you are at all aprehensive about opening these up I wouldn't reccomend it as the circut boards are sealed to the back plate with a kind of wierd foam seal that is difficult to work with among other things.
"Touchey power cord" - you mean the AC line cord? If it 'snaps,
"Touchey power cord" - you mean the AC line cord? If it 'snaps, crackles and/or pops' when you move it around, it could be the cause of your problem? Enough times of snapping, etc. could have caused something to go bad in the amp/speaker? Have you tried an email to the manufacturer? Certainly, if it's still under warranty, I wouldn't "open it up", myself... And warranty or not, if I really didn't know what I was doing I wouldn't open it up at all. Let the manufacturer or a service Company do it...
