Pursuant to my prior post, I intend to post a poll on each successive major component that I am considering.
Please re-arrange the following in order of preference, based solely on sonic quality, irrespective of price, facility or branding reputation:
Digidesign 888/24
Pro Tools HD/96
Pro Tools HD/192
M-Audio Delta 1010
RME Hammerfall
Apogee 8000 I/O
Prism
D8B (just the converters)
Lucid ADA 8824
Further suggestions?
I’m sure some will look at this list and be astounded that some are included. I’m equally sure that the focus of that astonishment will be commensurably divisive.
My reference to the decisions being irrespective of price, does not indicate that I have an inexhaustible budget. This is just my way of honing the choices according to my frame of reference.
Appreciate anybody having the time, or interest, to participate.

Damn, I'm not qualified to reply to this poll, but I have an understanding of the circuits. When I read about RME using AKM Semiconductors newer improved codecs for thier Hammerfall products, I knew they would sound good. LINK Gotta have low clock jitter, and op-amps with fast slew rates for musical transient response, ect.
You can compare specs, but you have to use your ears. The newer parts are up to 192khz, you may not need or want to sample at that frequency, but the 125Db headroom of those parts is the reason to have them. My amateur .02.
Wish I could see the poll.

Well...tommy...hate to rain on your parade but it's not the converters themselves that truly matters...it's the design around the converters that matter...granted the AKM's are widely used...
I wonder where else they are used  lol
and definately help..jitter....isn't that a dance? the jitter bug or something like that! lmao
how about the macarena...low jitter is very crucial to conversion quality in the highest sense...
take for example the SE versions of the Apogee PSX and the AD8K...higher slew rates and a wider bandwidth on the stereo image with faster Op amps installed....
One thing you should have done on the poll Simon was include the Ad8K and the AD8K SE!!!! Big difference between the two...

I think your gonna be hard pressed to find very many people that have had the opportunity to use all of those. And are you asking which models have the best converters, or which are the best models?
I say quit driving yourself crazy and get the apogee! At least you know you'll get good tech support! ;)
