I haven't played a Larrivee that I didn't like, OM-03R, D-03, D-03R, OM60.

They are excellent guitars and in my opinion, the best bang for the buck. They bury equal priced Martins and I don't know why they don't get more credit. Great guitars!

A friend who I use for guitar tracks often has one, it tracks really well. Reminds me of a Martin.

If you really want to see a Larivee shine, A-B it with a similar model by Martin, Taylor, Gibson, etc. I'm willing to bet if you base your decision on sound instead of who's name is on the headstock, you'll walk off with the Larivee, and an extra $2000 in your jeans.

I know 2 friends who have done just that.

I still have yet to hear anything even slightly less than stellar about the company or their product.

I agree... best acoustic guitar around for the money.

On a side note, I haven't played a NEW Martin that I have really liked yet. Maybe I'm missing something here.

8-) I'm thinking about going to a Larrivee Dealer and playing all the models I can get my hands on lol - I record some of my original stuff and I need something solid (I play 30 year old Alverez and it booms ((jumbo style body)) I have tried just about everything in eqing, and compression and I can't seem to overcome this porblem so it's time to get a Larrivee it sounds like... please by all means keep posting your info on this line of guitars... thanx!!

I love the Larivee line of guitars. I've A-B'ed them against Martins, Gibsons, and Taylors and almost always liked the Larivee better. Their cheapest all solid guitars tend to just kill stuff that costs 4 or 5 times as much. You may want to spring for the higher end models with a nitrocellulose finish (whichever guitar you pick). These should tend to age much better over the years than their "satin" finish guitars. This is true for all manufacturers that I know of. I HIGHLY reccomend that you audition ANY acoustic guitar thoroughly before you buy it. Including comparing it to other models. You may find 5 of the same make and model that sound radically different. I'm not saying Larivee or any of the manufacturers I mentioned are inconsistent. It's just the nature of all solid wood instruments. Another HUGE factor is YOU. Your playing style must interact well with the instrument. That's why there are so many different sizes, shapes and materials used to make acoustic guitars. I guessing from your post that your current "jumbo" doesn't match your current style. I'm curious as to what type of music you play, whether or not you use a pick etc. This may help us steer you in the right direction.

My J10E Jumbo is absolutely amazing. I don't play a lot of acoustic and really didn't need it but once I played it I had to have it.

hey all, thank you so much for all of the replies thus far... my style widely varies... I write my own music and lyrics currently with somewhat of a mixture of genres, mainly acoustic Rock, celtic, Jazz and classical influences... my old Alverez is (I believe Laminant top) and this is what causes the low end boom that I'm getting which I cannot EQ out without making it sound tinty and just too high-endy... I'm looking for a guitar that will respond good to some smart finger picking styles along with heavier strumming/palm muting techniques... something that is smooth and balanced, that records well and plays live well... the only clip that I have online is a rather crappy (technically) but feel free to check it out at http://www.jontaulmusic.com -- my artist site... it is in the soundclips area, under project clips... tell me what you think of the clip as a whole and then the guitar that is in it... it's a very basic four chord progression so the dynamics are alright but if I record a more complex/dynamic picking/strumming part with my Alverez it's just boomy and when I dig in it doesn't respond/record well... so that's what I'm looking at... thanx for your insite Bob!!!
