So here's the deal
My comupter:
I have a PC with a P4 3ghz processor and 1 gig of ram.
Recording System: Digi 002R

Problem:
I've been working on a project with a firend of mine from out of town. He records in Garage Band and Exports the tracks to WAV and sends me his tracks. When he records I've asked him to record in 24bit, as that is what the rest of the project is being recorded in. (24bit @ 44.1).

My issue is that when I try to import any 24bit track it gives me the message that Pro Tools doesn't recognize that type of audio or something. Does Pro Tools not allow you to import 24bit audio? Does it all have to be converted to 16 bit first? (I have tried converting the audio to 16bit, and then no problem... Imports right away)

Second Question:
When opening Pro Tools does it attomatically shut down any other audio sources to the 002R, ie... I'm working on a project, and then I minamize Pro Tools and search through folders for a certian SFX. I double click on it and it starts to play in Windows Media Player, but no sound?. I know that it assigns the output of any of my other computer audio programs to Analog 1 and 2 on the 002R and I DO have those channels up on the board but no audio. When I shut down Pro Tools *Shizam* Audio works all of a sudden (out of analog 1 and 2). Is this something that I can change so that I can still use the Analog outputs to play other computer audio while in a Pro Tools session? I should say that in Pro Tools I use ADAT outputs 1 and 2 for my main outputs NOT analog 1 and 2

Thanks for any insight to this
Cheers!

Most likely its a 32 bit floating point WAV, Protools wont convert it.
Have your friend check, Protools has no problems with 24 bit fixed.

The CoreAudio driver will not allow Protools hardware to be used
when Protools is open.

If you have a 002R, take the 1/8" out put and plug it in the back of the 002R
RCA inputs 7&8 with a Ratshack 1/8" to RCA adapter. There should be an RCA input solely for monitoring.
