i dont know if u will understand me but i will try to explain ..

u just need the clear sound u got .. add phaser .. then chorus from a good plugin sampler .. which means that it must be a quality plugin .. waves or something .. make it 5 voices and try to make ur own preset for the taping and stuff .. delay stuff like this

anyway after this do enhance ur mid and high range with a multi dynamics plugin and try to achieve the quality that u heard in the final mastering .. hope i helped :)

Here is how you get that sound you are looking for. You invest in a $25,000 to $50,000 Pro tools system. Then you spend another $10,000 on all the plug-ins. There. Wasn't that simple? And no smartass answer from me. Isn't that amazing? Now, how you manipulate the software, that's a different matter. You should go to ProTools school where you can spend another big chunk of cash to become ProTools certified. When you get certified, that means you have spent all of your money. It doesn't necessarily mean you'll get that same sound because you will still need some five to 10 years of experience using that system. If on the other hand you don't want to spend that much money? I would recommend that you simply hire a studio & producer/engineer that has already lost their money on the equipment. They would be happy to have your business and call you a producer as long as you give them $. I've often told recording students that they shouldn't bother to go to recording schools. Instead, you book yourself into the finest studio with the finest engineer you can. Then, during the session you pick their brains clean. Eh voilà! You then become a genius. I haven't bothered with that because the music you like and is not really played by anybody. It's all sequenced. It's all sample. It's all synthetic. It's all fake. But that's fine. We've all eaten at Mc Donald's and we know they make better hamburgers than mom used to make. NOT! So now you have to ask yourself, punk, do I feel lucky? (Dirty Harry 1970 something) and there you go.

I tried this a few times when I would hire a tech to come in to do some repairs. I noticed that every time I asked a question, he would put down his soldering iron, stop what he was doing, and would gladly answer my question in great detail.
What I quickly learned was, that at $50.00/hr it was best to let him do his thing, and I would observe as best as possible.

I now do the same thing when clients start asking a million 'brain picking' questions. I will either be your engineer or teacher but not both at the same time. (that's when mistakes start to happen)

Obviously, the original question is not about mastering and the OP didn't identify whether it was the music or vocals he was trying to reproduce, so 'Snobbed' was probably as detailed in his response as it needs to be.

Maybe we need a 'Production forum' for this stuff, but it's probably the kind of thing that belongs in the home recording folder.

I personally think the question here begs the real question "I'm wondering how his engineer got the chorus to sound the way it is..." That question alone asks a redundant question. Like what is the way it is? Is it good or bad? Does it jam? or does it jam a thumb in my...? I mean this only to be funny, but I really don't understand how this is a mastering forum question...? I think Natural put it the most "naturally" that it is not a mastering forum question. But one word of advice for the poster of the thread when you ask a question, even in the correct forum, at least describe many details to the sound that makes it "the way it is..." That way we will know "what it is..." your really asking. I think Snobbed did a pretty good job describing the effect on the vocals and how to emulate those w/ plugins.
