thanks dan-o,

Everybody seems to like the rode except me. I have heard quite a few vocals that were cut with it, and even though it is better than most of the $500 mics out there, it still does not sound "there". Not quite grown up in my opinion. Like its meant for budget studios and will never see a big ticket track.

Anyhow, it seems to sound brittle to me. A bit hashy on the top and a bit fluffy. I will say that it has a smooth midrange though.

I have heard one vocal track cut with the ntk that sounded good, and the mixer had to cut a good bit of high end out to let the sweet mids cut throgh.

Do you have a vocal track that you can post? thanks.

Yes I agree. And that is part of what I feel is improved by the tube change. The brittleness I mentioned in the post.

"Like its meant for budget studios"...

I believe that the project studio was the target for this mic. Although I feel it performs well above this.

I'm going to find that vocal track to send you. Although he's a screamer  you should get the idea. Do you want the whole tune or just the track?

I sent this to cyanjaguar in a private email then though that others might want to hear as well.

This is a young local punk band I did a little while ago. Tracked in two places. One being quite a challenge. Their basement Adat studio.
All the vocals were tracked at my studio. Lead vocals on the NTK.

* I apologize if anyone feels this is a shameless promo for the band or myself. I do feel it's audio related and I enjoy these guys.*
