I was wondering if anyone here, was familiar with the Microphone setup on the Kind Of Blue recording, by Miles Davis.
I've been having a discussion with a friend of mine about it. It was released in 1957/8. I'm guessing it was made all live with one microphone, and the musicians all a round it. Is that a fair guess? Or had they started using more mic's in that era?
We want to experiment with a "one mic" setup, and have that record as a reference point, or any good recording using that technique.

You may want to bring this up at the Acoustic Music forum... I'll tell you it was definitely made with multiple mics. Likely one per instrument and mixed live to a single tape deck that was running at the wrong speed (hence the pitch issues).
