I heard a track recently that was commercially released, I think the title was Love Never Felt So Good, and to me, it sounded disjointed, almost as if it was a rough version, or a work in progress.

IMHO:

His voice sounded very disconnected - and rough - unlike his other releases which were always so energetic and polished.

Timberlake's contribution comes off as nothing more than a futile attempt at salvaging a track that - to the probable thinking of those that were involved - wasn't all that good to begin with.

The underlying instrumental tracks sound very dated, and not in a cool retro way, either - but more like a rehash of something he would have done in the late 70's or early 80's, only it's not 1979 anymore, and that youthful and energetic performer of that time got off the bus about 3000 mile markers back and fifty face-lifts ago.

To my ears, the track I heard sounded like a rough idea that hadn't yet taken shape, and that maybe Jackson's vocal was actually a rough vocal / cue track, probably so the producer could get other tracks recorded around it, with the intent that Jackson would come back at a later date to print a keeper - but of course, he never got back to it.

If I'm wrong and that was the keeper? Then he was in bad shape. It didn't really even sound like him; more like that of a stylized demo singer - those studio vocalists that are hired because they sound like a particular artist that the songwriters or publisher is trying to target.

Anyway, I don't believe that we have heard the last from Michael, because those in charge of his career, record deal and bank account won't leave him alone. There's still far too much meat left on the sacred cow's bones for the vultures to pick at and turn a buck from.

It'll only be a matter of time before they remix one of his older tracks and he ends up doing a duo with some flavor of the week female artist, where she sings live and he sings from a video. Then there's the inevitable Greatest Hits and Lost Songs albums that are sure to appear, along with more Anthologies and concert videos than we could count. Why? Because Michael can still make a lot of people a lot of money... that's why. He might even end up being worth more dead than he was alive.

His "career" isn't over, not by a long shot. Elvis died in '77 and they're still picking away at his corpse every time they think that they can make a dollar.
