Welcome to RO
There are endless headphone threads

I think if you read these you'll see headphone choices are a personal choice and there is no overwhelming agreement. The best way to buy is to try. Take recordings that you are very familar with and test them out. BTW if you want an opinion on things in a similar price bracket you might tell what that bracket is I for one am not going to look up your particular headphones, either that or set up a link so we can see what it is you are trying to purchase. What is a starter pack?

Man.....kids with Xmas money already burning holes in their little pockets....Hehe
I thought maybe they'd be coming in here next week!

ATH-M50's or
Sony MDR-7506

Santa says:
Every good little boy and girl should get high quality, which lasts longer and then you'll be able to use them for a long long time...

but then again kids these days just use stuff and throw it away and buy something else...just as cheap!

Merry Xmas! HO HO HO!

I would consider looking hard at the Sennheiser 800s, AKG 701s, etc. Most of the Jap phones (Sony, AT, etc are just musical. They are harsh and have bass response issues. Grados are honky, which makes them great for the broadcasting boys. PASS for music! The Sennheisers can be zippy on top for some people. The Denons are a bit undefined on the bottom for most people. You really have to listen on a proper amp with lots of swing to hear what your phones are capable of. Most people use wimpy, slow amps which is a shame.
