I see articles & read stories about the quality of converters in various pieces of gear. If one can't afford an Apogee or Lucent or equivalent, could you improvise with something like your CD recorder or anything that would AD/DA your signal? Of course the signal would stay all digital but has anyone tried or used this as their norm for general mastering? When I bus all of the tracks within Cubase SX down to the 2 track master bus output, I'll send this signal through the S/PDIFs' out (on my sound card) to the digital input on the Sony CDR-W33. I then have the analog out from the Sony sent to my mixer for monitoring. No latency problems, well from what I can hear and the sound quality is superb. Is this OK? I thought I'd use the CD for an example. What other equipment would be good for such a task?
