I have one ... I like it very much but it doesn't offer as much color or sonic signature as other similar products such as the Pendulum Quartet II.

The pre(s) are flexible .. you can choose between the HV-3 solid state pre (which is a benchmark standard in the industry) or the tube based pre ... There is a sonic flexibility within the tube pre by using different tubes. The unit I received came supplied with NOS Telefunkin tubes which are supposed to make it sound even better. I can't say if they do myself, because as of this writing, I still have not tried them out.

You can also put a transformer across the input in either tube or solid state mode.. this adds a little sonic signature but not as much as you would expect. Especially in the solid state HV-3 mode, the STT-1 remains relatively uncolored, even with the "iron" switched into the input path.

The EQ is very well implemented .. a four band with semi parametric low and high bands and 2 fully paramedic mid bands .. all with plenty of overlap .. and it sounds supurb!

I love the compressor on the ORIGIN ... It is one of my favorites for bass ... and I have the Manley EL OP and vintage UREI 1178 and LA4's.

Tube or solid state operation may be selected for the compressor and eq section, independent of the mic pre topology selection.

The compressor may also be switched into a mode for de essing and you have the ability to switch the comp in front or behind the EQ in the signal path.. You may access the mic pre and the compressor EQ sections separately and use them both simultaneously on different things.

I recommend the STT-1 highly. With a pair, you have an excellent set of mastering tools as well.
