Hey y'all- a recent analog to digital convert here. Say, I've got a general sort of question here. Ever heard the old adage about Orchestra members? You know the sort of archetypes that certain musicians fall into. Violinists are divas, cellists are sort of nerdy but wild in bed (just visualize how a cellist plays the instrument!), Flutists are Air signs, brass players tend to be overly horny (ooh BAD pun!). Pianists have deep souls but tend to be analytical, and percusionists are just sort of... well think Keith Moon. Any input on what people who use Pro Tools are like as opposed to say people who use Digital Performer, Cubase, Logic etc.?

how about suckers? Digidesign got them hooked early when ProTools was basically the only thing going. nowadays, you can match or exceed ProTools' capabilities at a much lower cost AND probablly not get dicked over everytime the software/hardware is discontinued so they can push the new stuff that isn't backward compatible...

FWIW,
Being a Pro Tools TDM user/owner (and one without a lot of bread!), I know the others (Logic, Cubase, etc.,) and even own a few sequencers, but, if you specialize in AUDIO not MIDI, I vote PT, no matter what the cost. Yeah, they are schmucks with upgrades ( I can't afford an upgrade to PT mix - here I sit with PT 24, 2 ancient farms, AD-8000's and can't afford 5k more{Cdn} for a mix Farm :D
YMMV

I think it's fairly useless grovelling over software/hardware. It's like the old argument -'which is better Alesis ADAT or DA-38'?
Sorta like arguing over which brand of hammer is better.
You use the tools you are most familiar with and like best. Everybody has their own tastes in everything.
In the end, when they're over playing your latest hit on the radio, does it really matter if you've used a Struder or a 'portastudio' to record it?

If I had to one word to describe Pro Tools users, I'd have to say...uh...*rich*!!! :)
I'll admit it, if I had all the money in the world, I'd use Pro Tools too (not Pro Tools LE with the Digi 001, or Pro Tools Free, but the *real* Pro Tools).
