Hi, thanks for reading this post!
Very new to recording but recently learned a useful trick in getting backing tracks out of the way of the vocal or solo instrumental, that is basically panning competing frequencies RL and centering lead. Now the apple soft-graphic eq I have doesn't seem good for this though or it's doing something that I don't want it to do, I'm getting some loss of details and bass, does anyone have some suggestions on what would work well here and also a vst type plugin that woud be recommended for mac platform? Thanks ~

Once you start panning to make room on the canvass for other instruments in the arrangement you do perceive a little loss in bass freqs and some detail, but sometimes what you're actually experiencing is just a more balanced mix than you've been hearing since you started mixing the tune.
If you find a better volume balance now between the other instruments in the arrangement and the lead instrument you'll get used to the new mix and find that what you're hearing now is simply a more nearly correct and artistic depth of field and more nearly correct seperation between the instruments.
This is just my opinion because I can't hear what you're hearing.
What software are you tracking and mixing with and what kind of music are you working with? That'll help others when they chime in (with probably better answers than mine).
