Can I connect two preamps in series without damaging either preamp? The signal chain is:
mic (200 ohm output) => Preamp #1 (10kohm input and 50 ohm output, 22 dBu max) => Preamp #2 (1200 ohm input) => in-line attenuator => DAW (10Kohm input).
In case it matters, preamp#1 is SPL Channel One, and preamp #2 is SCA J99.
The reason for doing this is to take advantage of the compressor that is available in preamp #1. It will be a while before I can purchase an outboard compressor and I don't like tracking to plugin compressors. I frequently like to use very subtle compression while tracking.
Experimenting can be fun but not if it equates to $$$.
Thanks,
Bill
