my god!
having sifted through the posts upon posts regarding monitors and headphones.. i decided to bite the bullet and get a set of Sennheiser HD 280 pro Headphones.
WOW! not disappointed in the slightest.
IMO they give a fantastic true sound, especially for the price.
Thanks to all those who recommended them!

Same. Be careful trying to mix on them... they are not accurate at all, though they sound pretty good. Super hyped lows, and it sounds like they're missing some high mids or something. They're excellent for tracking though - loud, cheap, and good isolation.

Just to add to it... don't EVER mix on headphones. NEVER EVER EVER EVER EVER!
They do sound good as cans though. Especially for monitoring purposes. I wouldn't say their lows are superhyped. Yeah they are hyped, but not superhyped.

I listen through headphones, in my car, and pretty much every DVD player that I have in my house. Surprisingly enough, my cheap $200 Sony surround system is my "truth." That thing doesn't lie when a mix sucks.

Just did a little in-studio favored shoot-out comparison with Senn 280's & Ultrasone 750's.
Testers were 3 recording engineers, 1 mastering engineer, 2 very famous musicians, 2m & 2f general public listeners.
The hands down unanimous winner - Sennheiser 280's!
