I'm running Cubase SX 2.0 and I'm looking for a different program to use. I hardly ever use midi, and this program seems to focus around midi. It also doesn't seem to have a lot of editing power compared to Cool Edit. I use a Tascam FW 1884 so I want something that I can still use my board with.
Other than PT. is there an really good program out there that:
1. Has in depth editing power
2. Can use the FW1884

Nuendo IS Cubase SX - On steroids. Don't know on the Tascam,

Don't know on the Tascam, but I'd look into Samplitude. Midi is secondary (although I understand they've made HUGE Midi improvements in 8 - about to be released).
Best damn audio engine I've ever used. I have Nuendo 2 sitting here collecting digital dust.

I would have to agree with the others that Samplitude is a good product (particularly Sequoia) as well as Pyramix. However, I'd like to find out more about what you mean by "seems to focus around midi." While midi is an important part of Cubase SX 2, the audio engine is excellent and works quite well with the FW-1884. On all of my mobile rigs, I have Cubase SX 2 which I either edit everything native on those systems, or export so that I can use my pyramix system to edit.
What kind of editing powers are you looking for?
It does excellent crossfades, good plug-in implementation, good metering and monitoring and excellent summing.
FWIW, I do absolutely no midi in my studio (almost entirely classical) and Cubase works just fine.
For mastering, I definitely prefer Pyramix.

Cubase SX edits audio just as good as midi. Although I'm a midi
Cubase SX edits audio just as good as midi. Although I'm a midi buff, I've found using it has helped my editing techniques in the audio side too. I love to cut and paste with SAMPLE accuracy, with no issues at all. Maybe a few of us are'nt aware of the power that's at our fingertips. I've always believed that practice makes or in this case...leads to perfection.
Have you looked into Nuendo?
