Hello fellow readers and posters. I'm very new to this site but have enjoyed reading what others have to say about a great deal of things. I'm a guitar player, yet an amateur at recording audio with computers. I've owned a casette 4-track recorder(Tascam 424) for about 8 years now and have worked with recording midi with Cubase in Atari computers back in 1993 and swithced to cakewalk on PC's in 1995. I didn't change my Pentium I 133mhz computer (running Cakewalk 2.0!) until a few months ago. Now I own a P III 866 mhz with 512 megs of RAM and 48 gigs of Hard drive, and the Sound Blaster Platinum with the Live Drive; a midi controller keyboard, a Shure SM57, and my old Roland MA-8 small monitors and Roland MGS-64 Midi Sound Canvas. I acquired Sonar and the free version of Pro Tools + a bunch of DirecX plugins very recently and started playing around. I've been having much fun with the Antares Autotune and mixing countless guitar parts with different EQ's, Pans, etc, cutting, copying, pasting... man, I feel like an 8 year old in Disneyland! :) In any case, up until 2 or 3 days ago, everything worked perfectly but now I get a "DROPOUT" message in Sonar ALL the time both when I record and playback. I don't know what the problem might be because I'm not very computer literate (hence I still owned a Pentium I with 33.6kbps conection to the internet in the 21st century!) But it can't be what the pop up message says (the Audio disk might be full) because I have about 30 gigs of available space to record on. Any help, guidance or orientation will be greatly appreciated. Thank you all very much in advance,

u should also get the WDM drivers for ya SB live they account for latencies as low as 2msec to know if u are using them go to the control panel then system then sound video game control if it says WDM next or in the name of the sound card u have'em, if not u don't, this is best under windows 2000 if u don't have 2000 stick wit the reg drivers
and check http://www.cakewalk.com they have a few updates for Sonar

Thank you for your help. I have already succesfully defragmented both my hard drives and now I dont get "Dropeed out" as much but it's still happening... I clear the audi disk every day (sometimes twice a day) and don't record that much daily. On another thing that's troubling me is that the MP3 encoder that I have for Sonar is a trial version, it'll last for 30 days and in Costa Rica I cant purchase the complete version anywhere. I haven't tried to purchase it from http://www.cakewalk.com yet, but tried to purchase the bbe sonic maximizer plug-in and got an error everytime I tried. I emailed them and am still waiting for a reply.

I'm not much of a Sonar user but to me it may be that your hard drive is defragmented..do you only have One hard driveor two? Either case I would try defragging your hard drives and see if that helps your issues..When recording and playing audio from a hard drive it constantly moves data about and could cause drop outs that way.
What OS are you operating on as well..you may need to do some system tweaks as well to get a better performance out of your system. The fact that you have been recording and having fin for while tells me it's got to be a defragmented hard drive. Try it and let me know
