Hi - a colleague has some bits to do in LA and needs a really basic 8 track 16 bit rig for playback. Can anyone recommend a good place to buy from either new or 2nd hand - don’t fancy ebay much for this one!
Any help would be much appreciated.

thought of that already - We want something solid and with AES on the back. Like I said we dont need 24 bit but the addition of a USD is a must therefore teh TDM system is the way to go - when you look at the price of an 8 track TDM 16 bit system compared to a Digi001 with the converters we need and a suitable sync box and fast enough drives then there is actually very little in it.

I'm trying to convince them to get a HD for investment purposes but that adds $10,000 onto the budget - DOH!

I don't know if a USD works with the above. And I don't know how many ins/outs the D24 is (2 or four I think) but it is TDM and it is at least 16bit and it's real cheap.

with that D24/farm thats for sale you would also need an interface to go along with it...888/16? in anycase I think its going to be pretty tough buying a used system without going the ebay rout...or trying to find one localy. Mostly because it seems that most people selling used hardware dumps it on ebay now days...

do you have to have sync cabability with TC?

d24 + DSP FARM V1 is a basic PT24. Some tips:

Add an adat bridge 20/24 bits if you hav a digital board like the 01V/d8b/02R/Da7.
If not an 882/20 shaall do the trick.

This PT bundle lets you record up to 24 tracks, provides you up to 24 in/outs.

Problems: If you use a similar to in-line mixer, where track 01 of Pt is chan 01 of your board, you will lose lots of dsp power.

If you intend to mix inside the outs 1-2 within the recording sesion you will be able to open a few plugs.

Caution:
If you intend to buy a G4, you must look for a DSP Farm V2 QC revised.

Hope it helped ya
