Does anybody have any experience with Seventh Circle Audio Mic Pre's?
I like the idea of building a good mic preamp from a kit, these look interesting.
With all the talk of the Neve mic preamp's their N72 kit looks promising.
Its $650 USD to start a module capable of having a total of eight pre's in it.
Thanks for your thoughts,
Bret

Do you mean, you have actually used one of these preamps and they are muddy and hard to hear? Which of the SCA pre's are you talking about? Give me an example of your experience with them. I have read posts that have been on other sites, people are happy with the results from these kits. People are saying good things, they do certainly seem like they will save money for those of us wanting to learn to work with our hands a little bit.

This kit certainly looks decent. If I had a way of using 8 decent preamps, $700, and any skill at soldering, I'd go for it.
Taking audio seriously is the first step on the road to madness. No wait, it's the second - the first is deciding to get into the business in the first place!

Actually you can start the project with their T15 pre for just around $400 USD plus shipping and go from there, adding the next pre's as you can afford them. I did notice that the international shipping is costly however.

Majormusic,
don't take it personally. I am an honest guy, I don't have a whole lot of money so I cannot afford to buy a API or Great River right now, I run a remodeling business. I'm not here to poke fun at you. I don't take it personally that you say these things, its ok. Friday I actually went to your website and saw your interview with Jimmy Lovine and I thought it was Very good. You should put your links back up here so more people can see it! I ask you politely, no reason to be upset. By the way do you remember which one of the SCA pre-amps you used that you did not like? I would like to know.
Thanks, Bret

I built a whole rack of SCA pres.
4 A12
2 N72
2 J99
All the pres are nice. Im sure even a rack of T15 would be better than pres offered by presonus or m-audio. I'd like to compare the T15 to the mackie onyx pres which are nice too.
The whole thing probably cost close to 3k. Quality parts and components. The A12 was easiest to built.
MajorMusic doesn't know what he's talking about. Many respected engineers have used the SCA pres and loved just as much or more than the pres they are trying to copy.
My set up is SCA pres>>Lynx Aurora 8 with adat card>> light-pipe into a digi 003.
