Hi everyone
Is it difficult/risky to dismantle a U87? I don't want to do any damage, but I need to take a look at the innards. The outside is fairly bashed up, so I want to take a quick look to see what condition the insides are in.
Thanks

Thanks Chris, I appreciate that. I'd be afraid to go near the capsule, but that end of things seems to be fairly ok, although there is a dent on the grille, but nothing I can't live with. It's really only the circuit board that I want to look at.
Much appreciated 8-)

Neumann is known for engineering their microphones to be fairly easy to take apart. With a U87, simply turn the cone shaped ring at the bottom and it will unscrew easily. The casing then slides down and off exposing the innards. Press the tabs on both sides of the circuit board to remove the capsule assembly. Getting inside the capsule assembly can be a bit more involved...and I recommend sending that off to get looked at if you're worried about it...there really aren't any truly user serviceable parts inside the grille/capsule assembly anyway.
