I'm assuming you're referring to the 414-TLII right? If that's the case then I would second the "fantastic" by markk.
A great comparison would be to say that the 414's are like the sm57's of the high end--they're extremely versatile, and sound great on a variety of sources.
Although I like both the 414ULS and the 414TLII, I'd have to say the TLII is the winner for most applications.

Hope that helps.

I agree that the TL-II is very versatile. I like how it works in omni on acoustic steel-string guitars.

I have a simple project studio DAW and the 414 gets me excellent results when it's the right choice for the application at hand. It's definitely a mic I don't plan on ever selling as far as I know.

If you plan on getting one, you may want to check with B&H Photo - http://www.bhphoto.com for pricing and have your favorite retailer match it.

I have the 414 b-uls. I like it, and with the pre's and board I have now, the lack of precence as compared to the tl II is a good thing. I plan to get a tlII, but I'm not sure if they are offered in a matched pair. I was looking through the akg catalogue today and noticed the uls stereo pair, but not the tlII. I have been very happy with the uls and reccomend it. Also it is one of the most, if not THE most popular big diaphragm condenser in use today. The tlII is great, but still a newbie.

I'm pretty sure they are. Check bowisc's link to B&H.

Well, the model is about 10 years old. Relatively speaking, I guess that makes it a new mic.

Most of the acoustic guitar on my current project was tracked with C414B-ULS, as well as mandolin and viola. It is simply the most versatile mic I own. Good on toms, I use it for everything except vox, cabs, and kick. God, I wish I had a pair! You absolutely cannot go wrong with a 414, The TLII exists, so far, only in my dreams, but it will come.-Richie

if you are really serious about classical recording, perhaps you should be looking in the direction of a pair of schoeps or dpa small diaphragm mics. the AKG 414 of either flavor would not be among my top 10 choices for that application.
