As I understand the Asus P4B266 is the Mobo you're supposed to build your DAW on.
What about Asus P4B266SE ? Is it still a good mobo or is some crucial part missing on the SE-model? Trying to build my first DAW and I'd be grateful for help here.
One more question.
I'm going to have 2 HD and 2 CD (ROM and Writer) on my DAW. What is the best IDE config. for those 4 units? Is IDE1-HD (OS) with CD-ROM as slave and IDE2- HD (WAV) with CD-writer as slave the best way to do it?

Thanx for lighten up my darkness.
Just another question about HD:
I'm not sure wich ones I should go for...
I've read that IBM and Seagate are good ones, enough speed and everything . Now I've seen that Western Digital Caviar XL comes with 8 Mb cache (IBM and Seagate only have 2 MB )
Would these 8 MB cache make the WD a better HD for the DAW ?
Another important thing, Noise-level of the HD...
Anyone who knows how silent different HD's are?
And once again, thankyou for sharing your knowledge... After being completely lost in the jungle of DAW... I've finally found a path to salvation ;)

Ok.....some information to be thought about here...
IBM drives are a no no! IBM is stopping production of IDE drives..why? Because they fail too much. They are replacing drives left and right and have too many lawsuits pending because of them. IBM drives suffer from bad clusters all the time..they say you can use a software program to fix them....I say...why? If a drive constantly has bad clusters forming why bother?
Now, the Western Digital drives are THE way to go for IDE based systems. They are quiet, do not heat up and perform amazing over any other IDE drive....well, I do need to look into the new Maxtor 8MB drives as they are now in the race again....that really depends tho and I as I stated in Son of Smawg's latest post, I need to do some benchmarking tests to see how they compare....
Glad to show you the light through the dark tunnel of the DAW world...
This is yet another WWOD(What Would Opus Do) moment :D
