Hi. I was watching a documentary the other day and in the credits I read xxx. "Audio Sweetening"
What is Audio Sweetening in Video Production? Is it the same as Mastering?

Audio sweetening isn't just for audio in video. Besides regular professional recording and mastering work, I offer audio sweetening services that include re-mixing tracks, audio that I enhance for transfers from one medium to another, audio clean up or just to process audio by using specific gear that I own, or when I do budget type mastering work and everything in between. I would say that audio sweetening is anything that is done and takes the audio of any project to the next level.

Hi.....thanks for that.....now I know. BTW....what would you consider

but it mostly is about edit and preparing external audio to be included in the final product
A video camera can have audio imbedded with the video and this can be very primitive
This audio can be extracted and have many techniques applied to it to make it more palatable and comprehensible particularly in speech ... simple things like level matching between cameras or even on the same camera but different scenes and locations
addition of music and sound effects ... replacement dialog
lots of things are included in the sweetening processIn complicated productions this can be spread across a number of people and movies have specialists in many of the above areas.

Pop, Jazz, Rock for CD or vinyl
... classical music in all forms including FM radio can be very different
to Movie and Video ... documentaries may require the BBC rules and hence the popularity of the TC Gold ( I think it was)
and even Internet delivery may have it's own twists and special requirements.
anything that gets you there in time and on budget
and anything that keeps your client satisfied must be a good thing.
and then there is always room for gear that makes you happy and helps you want to stay in the business.
It all adds to your experience, knowledge and your skills.
Invest in the development of you.

Audio Sweetening can really be a lot of different genres in the audio world. The form of Audio Sweetening that I do, could also be referred to as "live post production". During a television broadcast I sit down next to the sound mixer with my software and fire away a bunch of samples, atmospheres and sounds in general to beef up the existing audience mix. Al done "live" in real time.
Examples on this can be found at [="http://www.audioswe…"]www.audiosweetening…]="http://www.audioswe…"]www.audiosweetening…] - don't mind the first page, which still are in Danish, but skip to the examples if you wanna take a listen.
I am aware that the term is very broad.

Peterjk, if you want to advertise on this site I'm sure the forum's moderators can get you in touch with the person who can sell you ad space. Dredging up old posts to promote your commercial activities without contributing anything useful is considered rather rude and it reflects badly on your business. For that matter "audio sweetening" has a bad connotation to many professionals, suggesting questionable audio services marketed to the uninformed with lots of hype but little if any technical fact.

Dear Boulder,
I did not realize that the thread was that old. I was simply surfing around "googeling" Audio Sweetening in the form I provide, since it has become the new black, at least in the audio industry in Northern Europe. On [="http://www.audiosweetening.com"]my site[/]="http://www.audioswe…"]my site[/] I've made some examples that clearly show, what I find is a service that is far from questionable. I am sorry if that offended you.
Have a nice day.

i dunno man, your schtick seems like a college class project. 'coin a phrase' 'make a site' 'show the product'... i dunno man isn't that stuff just 'audio post production' to film people. i mean you could key a gate to a perpetual crowd roar and w/ decent open close times do the same thing, given an ambient crowd track to key from. i'm just a recording engineer for music and i could muster that up, i dunno man, sell me more, cuz i ain't buyin yet.
your site has like one page, offers no rates, seems likely that the system could have been a midi trigger while in the studio? i still have no idea what this whole thing has to do w/ home studios? i'm skeptical of your use of product vs spam man.

Hey KMetal,
I agree that this topic might not belong in a recording forum, I just wanted to chime in, and tell what I find [="http://www.audiosweetening.com"]audio sweetening[/]="http://www.audioswe…"]audio sweetening[/] covers.
I do not, however, agree that it sounds like MIDI triggering after the show. That's the whole point, man: That this is done live. We simply recorded the audio from the final show, and a bus without the sweetening channels. And if you think it's only a matter of setting up a gate, you haven't really seen the possibilities here. How would you do add. claps on "1" and "3"? How would prolong an applause? How would you add other Special FX? Like I state on the site: It really is like post production, but done live. If you don't believe that, I would happily invite you to my next gig.
[The site[/]="http://www.audioswe…"]The site[/] DO offer a rates - I guess you did not read everything.
Have a nice day.
