hey there people. Okay here is the problem that I am running into. Ever since I installed my second sound card (an M-audio "audiophile") I cannot get my CD-burner to burn anything. When I go to burn a CD everyhting works at first. It reads the CD. Starts to read the information that I want to burn to the CD. Then as soon as it starts to burn it instintaniously gives me a buffer underrun error. I have tried looking at the trouble shooting guide of my CD burner manufacturer aswell that of the burning software. I made the changes that were suggested and nothing. I would really appreciate help with this as a studio without a CD burner and relatively small hard drive (40 gig) can become useless quite quickly.

Have you checked all the Optimization suggestions for your particular OS ? Set Virtual Memory Min and Max to the same value? How much ram in the machine? What size swap file? What speed are you trying to burn at? 2x is best for archival quality, least amount of Block Error Rate on most machines. It also gives the system more breathing room. Are you burning direct, or making a hard disk image first? What CD burning software? If Adaptec/Roxio, have there been any updates? These programs have a habit of turning on Auto Insert Notification every time you update them, and they DON't turn it off again. Check this in device manager, under the specific unit's settings. Do you have DMA enabled on your hard drive? Is the drive de-fragged? Did you download the most recent drivers for your new soundcard? These are some of the areas to look at - I'm out of time for now, I'm sure Opus will fill in more of the blanks... Steve
