Hello everyone.
I have a Chilton M10 desk which I run my MPC, synths etc into and currently work entirely OTB.
I’m looking to encorporate a DAW into my setup for mixing, but still have the desks eqs, auxs at my disposal as it sounds really nice.
The way to do this is obviously is to use a 10 channel interface, but the mixer only has inserts - no direct outs. I know I can use the inserts as direct outs by only pushing in the jack one click, but obviously then I don’t have my inserts. Also the auxs won’t be usable, which is important.
Does anyone have any bright ideas on the easiest way round this?
Thanks

My old large format theatre desk was wired exactly as Boswell says - so I could patch inserts, but each was also made available to an HD24, via an extra row in the patchbay. It worked fine throughout it's life, but sadly didn't;t get used for recording very much at all - which was a shame considering how much the patchbay, and cabling cost in time and money.

The front top row of the bay then gives you TS take-offs to your audio interface without breaking the signal route through the mixer. The bottom front row duplicates the mixer insert functions for external gear.
The remaining ways on the bay could be used for aux outputs, if that is what you were looking for.
I always strongly advise against the half-click insert kludge. I've been in the audience at too many events where this has prduced embarrassing disasters.
Brilliant idea, I’ll give that a go. Think it will work out cheaper than paying for a mod which is good.
Thanks
