Just a curiosity question, Do any of you ever have your ears cleaned?

I dont have them cleaned professionally if that is what you mean. I do carefully use a Q-tip frequently.
Ear wax is sticky because it prevents dirt from getting to the eardrum, thats why the wax gets brown. It constanly builds-up and pushes outward, but you still have to get it out. If you leave it in there you can possibly get an outer ear infection from a bacterial build-up. Yes dirt has bacteria in it.
You can get some of the wax by inserting the Q-tip very shallowly, dont push it in too far. Most of the time I use a hydrogen peroxide soaked Q-tip and that seems to loosen most of the wax, and then it comes out easily.

This is kind of embarrassing. My ears produce too much wax. I mean...WAY too much wax. I'm constantly having to clean it out, sometimes up to 3 times a day. This just started happening about a year ago. Good thing I have long hair.
Anyone else here suffer from something like this?

sorry to contradict you mr nice, but its a really bad idea to stick anything in your ears ever. all you end up doing is pushing the wax further in, which eventually builds up and forms a natural ear plug.
the simple rule of thumb (i heard this from my doctor) is 'never stick anything in your ear that's smaller than your elbow'

Sometimes the doctor would tell people not to use Q-tips if he feels your not smart enough or have any common sense to realize not to go too deep! :D
I been doing it for almost 3/4 of my life (I am 32 today) and never had any problems, with pushing the wax back in.

I appreciate all of your help. I have always just used qtips but I have heard some of the same as some of you about pushing the wax back. Luckly that has never been a problem, but I wasn't sure if anyone went to the doctor to get them cleaned. Once again thank you all for you input.

friends, I have the solution, ehem... my ear canals are smaller then normal so when ever I went to clean them the wax would just be pushed back causing a very annoying feeing. So I was told about Debrox, it is a liquid you put into your ears and it breaks up all the ear wax. After you let it sit in your ear you just get a syringe (it is a certain kind used for this purpouse) and flush out your ear with warm water, and presto all your ear wax is gone. You can find it at any grocery story of pharmacy, just ask, and the syringe is sometimes sold with it or they are right beside on another.

I don't have wax problems.
A small bit of wax will sometimes make my ears itch.
I q-tip them carefully to address the itch.
I understand that this is not a recommended practice - I would not encourage anyone to stick something small in their ears either.
I trust me - so I do it.
