Hi, I'm using a M-Audio Omni Studio interface ( Delta 66 SoundCard) to a PC. I have a AKG c1000 for my vocals and I'm using the mic preamps that are built in the omni studio. This doesn't sound too bad but I want to get better vocals. I do Hip Hop. I was thinking about getting a AT 4040 or an SP T3 and an FMR Audio RNP8380 mic preamp. First question: Are these good? Second Question: If I buy these, do I run the new mic preamp through the built in mic preamp on the omni studio, or to a different input not using the built in mic preamp. HELP! Thanks for Your time,

Peter

Hey did , when I got started , my first mic was the C1000. It exposed me to the world of condensers. I then graduated to the AT 4033 which really got things started. I've done some good tracking with this mic. So about a year and a half ago , I purchased the AT 3035 which has in my opinion a little more low end than the 4033 and seems to shine a bit better than its predecessor. As for running 2 stages of pre's , I'm not sure you'll really benefit from that. But maybe someone else could elaborate a little more on that.

If you get the really nice pre...try and also sqeeze a really nice compressor (rnc) in to budget. You really need to compress vocals on the way in. Afterb that chain look for the line level inputs to your sound card. You might need some sort of adaptor from radio shack to connect the output from the recording chain to the sound card input.
