what is the practical limitation to Firewire?
Products like MOTU 896HD advertise that you can daisy chain
more then one of their interface without using multiple firewire ports
Is this true and to what extext can they be chained?

just like ADAT cannot transfer more then 8channels 24bit/48khz
what is the limit of Firewire 400? 800?

I was curious about the answer to Redbort's question too. I think what Redbort is actually asking is about how many i/o's (tracks) can you run with multiple firewire devices. For instance if you had 3 MOTU 896HD's could you really expect to run 24 channels of i/o from your computers firewire bus? How about at high sample rates like 96kHz for 192kHz? I'm assuming a lot would depend on your processor and hard drive bandwidth capabilities.

I guess if someone has a formula for how much bandwidth can go through a firewire port and how much bandwidth a track of audio at 24bit/192kHz (or 24bit/96kHz) takes up would answer the question for me.
Thanks!
