I just bought the Fireface 800. I bought it used so it came with nothing. Will just plain old firewire work for this or do I need the firewire 400 or 800? I have a laptop. I won't be doing video or anything, at least until I figure this thing out.

You can use it with either firewire 400 or 800. I prefer 800 sp
You can use it with either firewire 400 or 800. I prefer 800 speed but that's just me. In either case you will need an express card adapter (best) or a card bus adapter (usable) depending on your laptop. Do not use the onboard 4 pin firewire 400. Onboard laptop firewire chips are not usable for audio 90% of the time.
