Hey all figured I'd start a thread where we can post links to free plugins. That way everything is all in one place. I'm sure some of these will be limited time offers but at least it's all together.

I'll start w this which is unfortunately only good till the end of today July 24 2016. It also requires an ilock.

That said the demo vid sounds killer in an 80's sort of way. I'm actually very excited about this. Gotta thank my buddy for the link. It's a soft synth.

Its pretty mad Kyle...there's 10 gig of native soundsets and I discovered it will play all my sample library as well...anything in WAV or AIFF format too. I've only been playing with it for 10 minutes and I'm going to see if it is compatable with the all the soundsets from Studio Ones' Prescence (it should be if its playing my other samples).

As it states its got a lot of 80's & 90's sounding presets...awesome.

Thanks for putting me onto this Kyle...you cannot have too many virtual synths ! :D

For something that retails for normally for $199 USD, to be able to download for free is pretty good IMO.

Good find and thanks for sharing. (y)

EDIT : It won't play the SO Prescence soundsets but never mind...thats what Prescence is for.

Heaps of fun to play with...I could spend days and days getting deep into this

Dude that monster sounds fabulous on that style of vocal. Really really good. It's worth the cost of an ilok just for that. Super cool. Good call Sean.

The width pluggin is cool too. It be even better if it had a LPF type knob or side chain or whatever so could narrow just the lower frequencies of say a modulation effect or chorus effect.

Lol I think I might order the ilok now.

Sean G Sun, 08/07/2016 - 20:43

I have one of those mutiple port usb adapters that I fixed up under the desk when I built it to keep things like midi usb connections and my ilok out of harms way.

This is because my previous ilok prior sat in the front usb port of my pc, but I sheered it clean off with my shin when I brushed past it and it was a PITA to get what was left of it out of the port.

At $65 AUD dollars a pop its worth securing them permanently out of harms way, that way you can leave it plugged in all the time and not worry about misplacing it either. ;)

kmetal Sun, 08/07/2016 - 21:28

Waves allows you to store your registration on a regular thumb drive or the ilock. I haven't used any of my new versions yet so I'm not sure how it all works. I actually just dug up my old ilok w PT 7 and a waves package.

As much as I don't particularly like the ilok site or system I do like having all the registration in one spot.

The VSL makes you buy a 'veinna' key for each of the three licenses you get w a purchase. So you need a dongle for each computer you run it on. At $30 it's not outrageous, but it could be a bit better. $90 'extra' for a $250 pluggin is borderline rip off territory, but the software is super cool. So I just figure it in as part of the total cost of ownership.

Sean G Sun, 08/07/2016 - 21:40

Some recent Waves plug-ins I have purchased allow you to either keep your licences on the PC or an external drive...no need for an ilok.

I keep those on my external hard drive in case my PC craps out...but there is always the chance that the HD can crap out too.

The vienna key sounds a little like an excuse for a cash grab IMO. At the end of the day if you get 3 licences with each purpose, what use is there other than to have them on 3 different PC's?..
Its not like you are going to have them on the one PC. Pathetic cash grab I say !

Sean G Sun, 08/07/2016 - 21:48

Its good to have multiple licence downloads with third-party software if you plan to upgrade your PC every few years...but who is to say that the software will not be superceeded / obsolete or not even supported anymore by the time upgrade time comes. Many have been caught out since the Windows 10 upgrade...I know of a few especially with Adobe Audition who suddenly found out the hard way that upgrading to Windows 10 / a new PC meant they had to upgrade their DAW as well.

Thats why you should be able to download to multiple machines at once without additional costs involved...at least that way you get the most out of your purchase and come time to eventually upgrade the third-party software the chances increase of you at least upgrading one of them...if not all of them.

kmetal Sun, 08/07/2016 - 21:48

Yeah it's a bit much... At least once you have them you don't need any more for further 'investment' in Vienna stuff.

I think that software should be legit and paid for just like any other hardware. But they really should find a free way to protect their stuff. Its kinda a bit much.

Or just raise the price and 'give' you the thumb dongle lol. At least it looks a little less opportunistic on their part.

I agree...nothing grates me more than people who used cracked or pirate software, then complain when things start going haywire and things don't function correctly...or suddenly their system crashes or freezes them out. Cracked software and plug-ins are the number one way to infect your system with malware, but idiots too cheap or too lazy to pay still do it. Its laughable.:ROFLMAO:

The same goes with plug-ins...buy them if you want them. They cost money to develop them. Support those that went to the trouble to give you a good plug-in. Support them buy giving back with a legitimate purchase of the product...you'll reap the benefit with free upgrades etc down the track....(well, with some, not all...)

But after market / after sales cash-grabs associated with some software products and licencing is dodgy on behalf of some developers...IMO it turns many away from their brand in many respects.

Interesting perspective. I hadn't thought of that. This is my first foray into multiple pcs/systems. I made it a point to make sure they were all the same gen.

Lol on the opposite side I was surprised when auditon made there old version free and I was able to listen to some of my old files on after losing my install disc and old computer.

They should just associate you with your product so they can identify who's plugins are where. I mean really how many people could you possibly give bootleg copies of something to that wouldn't have internet on their computer? Not a lot.

What aggravates me is when waves allows you to only use 'your' plugins on one computer, ditto w protools. That's a bit extreme.

I'd gladly register each of my computers and phones w the plugins company. Even allow them to cross refernce my registration w the computer company like asus or Lenovo or whatever.

There gotta be a more fair way to everyone than limiting to one machine (it's 2016 for gosh sake lol) or having to buy Addition thumb drives.

Frankly the more stingy the compmay the more it makes me wanna work around their system.

Maybe this whole subscription thing is gonna change things. Although I doubt it'll be cheaper for the end user.

Yup exactly

Exactly. Enough is enough. Nobody likes a middle man or third party lol.

The one time I got bootleg plugins I payed the kid $100 and after two weeks my whole system crashed. That was the last time. I just used stock stuff and freebies.

This is the first time I'm actually amassing a choice set of aftermarket plugins from varying manufactures. I didn't realize software went on sale for discounts until recently so I just grab them on sale for the most part. Lol most of them suck anyway so it's not like I'm going broke buying every pluggin out there. Nor am I wasting time w the bootleg of every pluggin.

Well, you would really only be limited to how many licence downloads you have left beside your own download.

I have S1 on my PC too...I haven't tried downloading the waves plug-ins to the laptop and connecting the HD to it to see if those licences would work on it...I doubt it though, but who knows.

Sean G Sun, 08/07/2016 - 22:13

I like the fact that if you are on their email list...they'll tell you when a sale is on....and tell you again, and again...and every day until the sale ends...and then again when they extend the sale.

I picked up a few Waves plug-ins with the sale that just finished...some classics like the Renaissance plug-ins plus a few things like the Scheps 73 (not really impressed there though) and I think the most I paid was $59 bucks(?) for the Electric 88...its a Fender Rhodes style keyboard vsti plug-in that is also a stand-alone app...Iv'e only played around a few times but its pretty good and has some really classic preset sounds to it as well.

Its about the only time I really buy plug-ins, when they are on sale, and even then I don't buy them for the sake of buying them, just if I need something different to what I already have or something specific like a reverb. I actually bought the Abbey Road Reverb plates from Waves as well...Jury is still out on that one for me but like just a tumor its growing on me. :D

Heres the Electric 88 overview

It effect is very subtle thats for sure.

That's cool I'm a big fan of isotope products. I used ozone 3 as a demo a while back and it was very transparent but powerful too. I missed the sale where they were doing all the main izotope products bundled in w izotope advanced 5 for $500. I'll have to catch it next time around. Either way I'm going to be using izotope for some mastering style stuff.

I read some SOS articles and some big time guys are using it for there mastering/master bus. It made the final cut/master on a Justin briber album, so it's a real pro quality pluggin.

Izotope stuff isn't cheap but it's good stuff.

You've got ozone / ozone advanced??? If so how do you like it.

It's funny most often the sales happen when I don't have the money or have the money but should spend it on something else. Lol sometimes I can't resist

kmetal, post: 441475, member: 37533 wrote: You've got ozone / ozone advanced??? If so how do you like it.

I have Ozone 6 Advanced ...I think it is a great plug-in for mastering purposes. There is so much you can do with that plug-in that for me it was well worth the money.

I also have Alloy 2, which I use just as a channel strip option, Also have the Nectar 2 suite, plus Insight which is a really great metering plug-in...it has settings for all the different broadcast standards / levels and I use it for getting my LUFS levels right.

I have Trash 2, Breaktweaker and Vinyl which I can't say I use that much, I did download Vocalsynth for a Kraftwerk cover side project I was doing and I think I have only used it once or twice. I think I have another very basic delay one as well that they were offering for free but I haven't really used it yet.

Ozone 6 Advanced and Insight are the two that really get a workout from me. I also have RX4 which is an audio & spectral repair program that I like to use more so in stand-alone mode.

I have been using RX4 more recently and its great for deverbing, dehumming and declicking tracks as well as removing unwanted digital harmonic distortion.

I think Ozone 7 and RX5, the newer updated versions were released only in the last few months.

Sweet I'm on the fence between PTHD and sequoia.
If I get sequoia I'm. Not a gonna grab ozone. But I'm leaning towards PTHD due to its multiple video tracks.

I haven't met anyone who uses izotope stuff and doesn't like it. Butch Vig uses it and he's not sponsored by them or anything.

Did you find a steep earning curve for ozone?

Sean G Fri, 09/23/2016 - 16:54

No not really Kyle...its actually quite straight forward from my POV....its pretty easy to navigate your way around the GUI and all your modules are at the bottom of the window and you can just click between them bringing up the window for each one.

There are some additional Greg Calbi presets you can dowload for it as well...keep an eye out for those if you go with Ozone.

kmetal Thu, 09/29/2016 - 18:59

Totally gonna snag that eq and the soft tube distortion. Softube has an amazing pultec emulation, the best pultec plugin I've used. Dunno how accurate it is but it sounds killer! I've got an l2 and the CLA compressors in my waves cart, on sale thru tomm, I'm debating about hitting the checkout button. It's pretty much he last of the waves stuff I like, that don't own yet. Ugh these sales every weekend just bleed my pockets slowly lol.
