There's a thread on control surfaces where it's mentioned. Jeremy mentions a problem with the moving faders.

I've got one that i use only as a control surface. Thats all I use it for now, tascam also has a bigger 24 channel control surface only . I am not sure of the quality of it but the price would be favorable. In Canada it cost $1400 to add a section of 8 channels to expand the control surface of the 1884. Kind of a rip off in my opinion. If I had to do it over it would be a mackie
