Hello everybody. My name is Adam and it is a pleasure to be here. I am a new member and thought that I would take this opportunity to introduce myself. I am here to obtain information about creating a very simple, effective, inexpensive home set up that I can use to record improvs. and jams in my home so that I can build a reference library of riffs that I can use to help in writing projects. I am also here to assist anyone with any information that I posses that may be useful to them. All that being said, I look forward to speaking with you all and thank you all in advance for your help, guidance and advice.

So many ways to put together a nice little, solo, quality, laptop oriented, recording rig. Literally hundreds to choose from. And just about as many ways as doing about it.

What's the best? That's usually the question. For which there is no answer. Not when it comes to art. When it comes to science? That's something different. And one can approach music recording and production, either way, both ways, or in a hybrid manner. Mixing and matching and looping through, different analog components, along with high-quality digital converters, can, break your bank. But that's the way ya get the best. When you can afford that? For everything else? There's MasterCard.

So to help direct you, we have to find out if your computer is SCARY? Or, not scary? That is, what do ya have, what's it running?

Once we've established all that, having a budget in mind, will get things rolling.

First stop... SHURE SM-57 and/or SM-58, microphones. That's all you need to know, about microphones. (Also obtain the matching foam pop filters for those, both.) Not whether it says "studio condenser microphone", in the advertising copy or, on the box. Everything sounds good on those, guaranteed.
