Hi guys...
anyone can explain me how RAM works on DAWs ?
I also use video softwares and RAM is very important there since all Pre-Rendered videos goes to RAM for a faster render and preview and if u have more RAM u have longer previews..
But in audio what's RAM memory is for ?
What's the difference ( in performance ) clould exist between a system with 256mb RAM and the same System with 1gb ram ?

Well, RAM works like any machine..it buffers the information to help ease the CPU and hard drive. With plugins it's more of an ease as well as those are the most CPU intensive applications. The audio is streamed through memory as well but it all depends on your buffer size on the audio card as to how it is handled altogether.
Paging is also handled through memory where the memory and hard drive share swap data.
