Hi,

I was told you guys can help me buy a new computer.

To begin with, I've decided to Echo's Layla 3G, which comes with Tracktion.

I write, sing and play a Martin D35.

I'm hoping to keep the price under $600, and will only need the tower (I think). We have a Best Buy, Circuit City, and various other computer stores here.

As far as my computer knowledge, I'm learning, so you'll have to keep it basic.

Thanks,

V.R.

if you are looking under $600 - find someone to build you one...

either case, look for the following MUST HAVES for a PC:
1 - P4 (no celeron, etc bull shit) 2.0+
2 - 1GB RAM+
3 - 2 hard drives: OS Hard drive and an audio (both at least 7200rpms)
4 - 19" monitor

Immediate Upgrades after purchase:
1 - Back Up Drive (firewire?)
2 - More RAM
3- 2nd 19" Monitor

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 3000.
-P4 3.0ghz (800 front bus)
-256 DDR Ram
-80 gig Hard Drive
-Nothing Special Video/Audio
-15" Flat Panel Display
-1 year of tech support
-CD Rom only
-$532.00 taxes and s/h

This system is not quite ready for recording but this is how I plan to upgrade.

-512 DDR Ram is $29 per stick from TigerDirect.com 1024 DDR Ram is $95 per stick from TigerDirect or $80 on eBay. I plan to go with 2 1-gig sticks from an eBay vendor.

-Hard Drives are dirt cheap now. You can get 250 gig hard drives for about $110 on eBay. but you my not need that much.

-I don't think that the video card on this system supports dual monitors but I don't think you'll be needing one anytime soon.

-DVD Writers are about $50.

Altogether I'll spend about $800, but this is quite good considering it has a Flat Panel Display. I don't think you can beat it. If you can't live without another flat panel, Tiger Direct has 17" for about $159.00
