okay okay,
so i met this guy who gave me this burned CD with a lot of stuff on it like pro tools...anyway i'm trying to get a feel for it. When i press the record button it lights up..when i press the play button i get a recording indication but nothing happens..the clock doesn't move nor the beats and bars or measures. Also when i right click the record button i get different characters within the circle. So, if you could answer my questions i'd appreciate it or IF YOU KNOW WHERE I CAN DOWNLOAD THE COMPLETE PROTOOLS MANUAL...I'D APPRECIATE THAT TOO

well..if you got a CD with pro tools on it most likely this is a cracked copy and it somehow tells pro tools to use any hardware? Or are you using Pro Tools Free? Make sure you arent Online...if you are online that means it's waiting for a sync source to tell it to go into record mode..you can tell by the little clock type symbol on the left side of the trasnport..basically if it's blue(or whatever color it may be..I'm color blind!!) then youre online..click it to unhighlite it and you're ready to go!!
The different symbols tell you are in loop mode or other modes I forget...

P.S...I take it you havent gone to the Digidesign websote then huh? Go to the support section and there is a link to get the manuals in PDF format

Hi AdrenalineBoy,

I agree with what Opus has written. It could well be that you've got a cracked copy. If you go to digi's site (http://www.digidesign.com) you can download "PT Free".

This may sound dumb but I'm just checking: You've hit the record button and pressed play but you didn't mention whether or not you'd armed any tracks? If you have armed 1 or more audio tracks are they routed correctly to your audio interface?

There's a whole list of things that could be causing your problem. My advice would be to download "PT Free" and the .PDF manual and go through it a step at a time. If you still have problems post a message up here and we'll see what we can do to help.
