I just got the M-Audio Firewire Solo box today and it works great on my desktop but on my laptop while the laptop is plugged in it gives off this noise/static. I think it might be a ground loop isolation problem and i have a ground loop isolator from Radioshack but its for RCA connections. I'm thinking I might need a power conditioner. Any ideas?

Yes! I have a Hewlett-Packard laptop and it's a problem with the AC switching power supply. You need a ground cheater, 3 into 2 plug on your laptop power supply. That awful Radio Shaft ground loop isolation transformer won't fix that problem along with ruining your audio. But you still need to be careful if you are working with tube powered guitar amplifiers as you might encounter a hot chassis. Just know that people have lost their lives with something as innocuous as that. Yes, I know the desktop machine also uses a switching AC power supply. Not sure why the laptops have these problems? Otherwise, enjoy your wonderful new purchase!
