Hello everyone, just wanna start off with a huge thanks to this forum.
I want to buy/make a few quality mic preamp's. I am using a Firepod that has pre's but I think I can definitely get a warmer sound with a few extra pre's. Does anyone have preferences? I'm trying to stay under $500. Thought about a Pm-1000 and modifying the ins/outs. Surely there are other good affordable boards for this. Anyone know of any good home brew plans? Are the PreSonus Tube Pre's good product? How good are the Firepod Pre's? I would be willing to drop some more money if the payoff was that much more. Opinionswill be greatly appreciated!
Thanks
Justin

The Presonus Blue Tube DP is junk - I have one just for the cheap channels and can herdly bring myself to use it. I haven't tried other Presonus pres.
Check Prodigy-Pro.com for non-kit DIY stuff. It's an interesting site but the technical talk there goes way over my head.

FMR Audio RNP can be had for under $500 for 2 channels. Some don't care for it but many do. You'll hear mostly bad things about it on this board but will hear the opposite over at Gearslutz. Decide for yourself.
You can get a Hamptone JFET 2 channel kit - everything you need down to the last screw - for $575. You probably cannot find a bad word about these. I have one and love it.
Seventh Circle Audio and JLM Audio stuff is highly regarded but will cost you more $.
