What would be the most ideal ProTools rig? Well, there aren't any affordable ProTools rigs that can record more than 8 tracks simultaneously. Pro tools LE cannot record more than 18 tracks simultaneously if you have an interface that can deliver. So that leaves only the more high-end ProTools systems that can be used as portable 24 track recorders. So why do you want to do that? You could utilize a couple of the M-Audio interfaces or any others for that matter to achieve real-time simultaneous track counts of more than 18 into someone else's software. Personally, I prefer a purpose built recorder instead of computer blah blah. I utilize 24 beautiful API and/or Neve preamps into a Alesis HD 24xr. Then loaded into ProTools LE. That's only if the client wants ProTools. Otherwise it's Sony Vegas or Adobe Audition for me.
