Treatment on the inputs?

Should I be printing treatments on all my instruments and vocal inputs (not effects but phase reverse, hi pass, comp, limiting and EQ) or should I go in dry with only desirable mic placement and gain staging. I do use some eq, comp and spatial plugins on the vocal channel inserts that can all be disabled during mixing….

The mics in the center of the circle scheme worked okay, thanks!

Hi folks, I got some advice here about a scheme to set up a simple unobtrusive set of mics in the middle of the circle at our weekly Irish session in order to have a collection of recordings to help us hear ourselves afterward, and, you know, for the same reasons people take pictures of ea

Stereo recording from the center of a circle?

I’d like to make recordings of our group of musicians who play irish music. We get together every week and sit in a circle, in a private space (not a bar), and play Irish tunes. I’d like to avoid interfering with the group dynamic in our small circle and not be intrusive, so here’s my thought, let me know what you think.

It seemed sensible, before starting to do the video on recording choirs, to explain a little about the differing techniques you can use to record 'real' stereo - as in recording the placement of individual sound sources within a stereo soundfield. Quite different from our usual multitrack method of panning the various tracks to their proper location.

Live recording, mixed at home

Here's something I'm working on for fun. I'm pretty happy with where the mix is going but certainly open to critique. Used an XLR split from the house mics plus a few mics of my own to my GB2R/HD24 setup.

Mixed and mastered at home on my 5.1 system, though mostly in 2.1 mode.

(Beware the F-bomb at the start if you're at work or whatever.)
