Hi, does anybody know how i can rescue some audio files that, while recording, suddenly the computer shutdown.
Soon after the power failure i turned the computer on again, went into the audio files folder and saw some files, opened up the session, and there was no audio, when i tried to import the audio from the folder, Pro Tools said it couldn't recognize the file type, so went back to the session and continued recording, all this during a live show.
When the concert ended, i closed the session went back to the audio files folder and suddenly the files that were "currupted" disapeared and the new files took their place
The hard drive is brand new so there was no more info on it, i guess those files must still be there, but because they are not written on the TOC they don't appear.
Hopefully there's a sofware that can help you rescue those files...

There's a VERY good chance that data for the original files was, at least, partially overwritten with the second set of files. The first rule of data recovery is that once something is lost, do NOT write any new data to the disk.
I don't leave home without my UPS.

Actually I talked to a company that specilizes on data recovery
and they said they could've recovered my data but because I ran "unerase" they said that i had lost 70% chance of saving the data. True or false, I don't know.
They say norton utilities makes it worst and recommended not using it.

What you were told is true. If you lose power or your system crashes during a recording session, don't attempt to recover the data your self unless you know what you are doing.
In most cases it is best to not even attempt to boot the PC until you can talk to someone with data recovery experience. And for God's sake get a UPS.

So I hadn't looked at the hard disk since the day the computer shot down, I didn't want to touch it.
But know that there seems to be no hope, I dicided to open up the sessions and start mixing what was recorded after I had powered up the computer and to my surprise in the audio files folder there were my "lost" audio files!!!
But guess what, protools doesn't recognize the files, so it doesn't matter that i have them, or does it?
I downloaded Wavelab demo and Sonic Worx demo cause they'll recognize any type of audio file, and when i opened one of the files,on wavelab, there was only "pink noise" coming out of the speakers!!!
Then Sonic Worx said that it couldn't recognize the "form".
So again I thought I was into some good news but i guess not :(
If anyone can perform a "miracle" let me know.
Thanx!

You could try symantec's unerase option however because you kept recording on the same drive I really doubt that the files survived. I would recommend you by a UPS (uninteruptable power supply), a decent one can be had for $3-400 and it can give you enuf time to save and exit when the power goes out.
