Hey there, Im running a small studio in my house, and I find that my Peavey studio 112 amp is a lot noiser in my house than it was in the store :(
its really not an issue for recording, as the noise doesnt carry over into my recordings so much, its just white noise from EMI etc
I'd just leave it alone, but it kind of annoys me when Im just playing around with my guitar
Can anyone suggest a good powerconditioner that I can pick up? (name brands etc) and where I can find them (websites, stores in NA etc). I tried a Monster Power power bar, one that supposedly filtered out emi, but I didnt notice any improvement, or any results at all for that matter ( It cost around $160 CDn, which is the rough price that a good power conditioner costs according friend who builds studios)
also, how diffictult would it be to simply shield the amp inside some kind of cab (open front) from emi?

im proabably just getting anxious cause i havent heard anybody elses guitars in the amp yet, though I know its a solid workhorse in the studio
Make sure you're not near a computer monitor (that's turned on)
Make sure you're not near a computer monitor (that's turned on) while playing through your guitar amp.
Some guitars REALLY don't like computer monitors - though it usually comes out as hum rather than white noise.. both are annoying.
If you need it on - try turning 90 degrees to the monitor and see if the noise doesn't get a little better.

No power conditioner is going to help with white niose. This is noise that is generated by your amp, not picked up from the power line or induced by the surroundings. You probably only noticed the noise at home because the ambeint noise level was higher in the store (lower in your home) and the higer noise level masked the white noise.
Try a higher pre amp setting and bring the master gain down a bit .. That should help some. Gain stageing is the only (albeit limited) solution for your problem ... or purchase a quieter amp.
