Just discovered these forums and I've already learned a thing or two!

This last year I bought Cubase SX and a MOTU 896HD. My friend is planning on buying the same software and a firewire interface, ideally it was to be another 896HD. The idea was to join forces, so to speak, for live shows and record 16 channels instead of just 8. Now we've gotten to looking around and saw the Tascam FW1884, which is very similar but also has the panel controls.

Is there any reason why you can't use two different firewire interfaces at the same time if they are different manufacturers? More specifically, will these two units work together in Cubase?

If so, will the Tascam be able to remotely control channels on the MOTU 896?
