hi, i am still very new to all of this so bear with me.

i am looking to record a full drum kit with 8 mics max all using XLR jacks- i know the MOTU has the capability to do that- it has exactly 8 XLR inputs with preamps in- but what are the quality of these preamps like - preamps just amplify the input signal right? so i guess you cant record unless you use preamps or can you? if i do need em is it worth buying another piece of hardware to get better preamps ?

the Tascam has 8 inputs but doesnt specify whether it has preamps for em...i am a little confused over the subject of mic preamp-amps etc.

and concerning these two pieces of hardware- will they both work either on a mac running logic or a pc running cubase?
