I have a mx2442a mixer that i am having trouble recording from. I dont know if i have my recorder hooked up right, i have a manual thought i had it hooked like it said but no sound.

For multitrack recording from the MX2442A mono channels you need to use the channel insert jacks as direct outs. The diagram in section 7.1 of the MX2442A manual shows how to wire TRS jack plugs to achieve this. You get an unbalanced, line-level signal out.
If you do not want to wire your own plugs, you could use conventional TS looms with Hosa DOC106 adaptors. The type of plug needed on the other end of the loom will depend on what type of input sockets there are on your recorder or interface.
