The sliders will never control anything. You need a control surface for that. As far as the Delta 1010: it needs to be set as the default recording device. You need to set this up in core audio settings. Look in your manual on how to change the audio settings in Logic. I know how but I think you should get familiar with the manual.

Edit: Incidentally, the spirit sx has direct outputs on each channel. You should be using those to go into the 1010. Is this by chance a 1010 LT? If you have the 1010 with a breakout box, you're good as gold. You can even set up returns from the 1010 and create separate headphone mixes or even use them to incorporate harware effects(though with some latency). If it's the LT, you'll need RCA to unbalanced (T/S)phono jacks.

i have set up delta 1010 as default recording device in logic bt still cant get it to pick ma mic. im tinkin the prob is wit the connection btw the mixer and soundcard. dunno id any1 knows how many cables need to be connected btw soundcard and mixer and where exactly to plug them. my soundcard is a delta 1010 m-audio 24bit 96khz gigital audio recording system and my mixer is a soundcraft spirit folio sx not an lt. thx 4 helpin out this novice(me)

So, do you have a breakout box or not? If yes, use the direct out to go into the 8 inputs on the 1010 and out from the 1010 into 8 more inputs on the board.
If no, you have the LT version and will need 14 rca to T/S phono jacks and two male/male XLR cables to connect them.

So you want outputs 1-8 on the mixer to inputs 1-8 on the 1010 and outputs 1-8 on the 1010 to inputs 9-16 on the mixer.
